"Behold, O monks, this is my advice to you. All component things in the world are changeable. They are not lasting. Work hard to gain your own salvation." Last words of The Buddha
So far...Best Actress Frontrunner. "Beasts of the Southern Wild" star Quvenzhané Wallis was a regular five-year-old school girl in Houma, Louisiana when she auditioned for the role of Hushpuppy in the film. She was six during production and now she's out promoting the film she's eight years old. Her hair is now straightened and she is a sensation.
Co-writer and director Benh Zeitlin has done an extraordinary job with Wallis and her co-star, Dwight Henry, both non-actors. This is a fantastic film you must see when it opens in Las Vegas. Wallis is breathtaking!
Can Psychedelic Drugs Help us Speak to Aliens? By David Jay Brown. I've streamlined the first part of this article by Brown. You can read the entire article here: http://venice.patch.com
Scientific research with the powerful psychedelic drug DMT reliably produces alien contact experiences.
A primary chemical ingredient in ayahuasca--the hallucinogenic jungle juice commonly used in the Amazon--is called dimethyltryptamine, or DMT.
It appears that DMT has the extraordinary power to open up an interdimensional portal into another universe--often referred to as "hyperspace"--and to reliably allow us to establish contact with the intelligent beings who reside there. DMT is a profound mystery in many ways.
One of the strangest puzzles in all of nature revolves around the fact that DMT is naturally found in the human body--as well as in many species of animals and plants--and no biochemist knows what it does, or what function it might serve, in any of these places.
Because natural DMT levels tend to rise while we're asleep at night, a role in dreaming has been suggested. But this is pure speculation, and even if true, it may also do much more.
According to reports from many users, DMT has psychedelic effects of such strength and magnitude that it easily dwarfs the titanic quality of even the most powerful LSD trips.
With the proper dosage, DMT appears to transport one into an entirely new world--a world that seems far more bizarre than our wildest imaginings, and yet, is somehow also strangely familiar.
Psychiatric researcher Rick Strassman, who conducted a five year study with DMT at the University of New Mexico, has suggested that naturally-elevated DMT levels in the brain may be responsible for such unexplained mental phenomena as spontaneous mystical experiences, near-death experiences, non-human entity contact, and schizophrenia.
Strassman and others have even gone so far as to speculate about the possibility that elevated DMT levels in the brain might be responsible for ushering the soul into the body before birth, and out of the body after death.
But perhaps what's most interesting about DMT is that, with great consistency, it appears to allow human beings to communicate with other intelligent life forms.
A 2006 scientific paper by computer scientist Marko A. Rodriguez called "A Methodology for Studying Various Interpretations of the N,N-dimethyltryptamine-Induced Alternate Reality" explores how to possibly determine if the entities experienced by people on DMT are indeed independently-existing, intelligent beings, or just projections of our hallucinating brains.
Rodriguez suggests a test that involves asking the entities to perform a complex mathematical task involving prime numbers to verify their independent existence."
I'll take the challenge. Next time I have an ayahuasca ceremony I will not spend my time visiting other worlds but instead ask: "Is 10 is a solitary number"?
(A number that belongs to a singleton club, because no other number is friendly with it, is a solitary number. All prime numbers are known to be solitary, as are powers of prime numbers.)
Others may want to solve Goldbach's conjecture. It is one of the oldest unsolved problems in number theory and in all mathematics. It states: "Every even integer greater than 2 can be expressed as the sum of two primes."

New Age psychology is closely tied to the belief that we can hasten the progress of evolution by achieving a higher consciousness, which is the central goal of the New Age movement. Every time I read about our New Golden Age of Spirituality, I say "No. Not happening." Like every species of animal, humans will self-organize into a caste system of the "haves and have nots." And the "have nots" will be exploited any way they can.
Human history and the present clearly shows that "All men are created equal" is a beautiful ideological sentiment.
Cruelty is in our DNA.
How do you explain the amount of free pornographic sites on the Internet? Every second $3,075.64 is being spent on pornography. Every second 28,258 internet users are viewing pornography. Every 39 minutes a new pornographic video is being created in the U.S.
It's big business. The pornography industry has larger revenues than Microsoft, Google, Amazon, eBay, Yahoo, Apple and Netflix combined. 2006 Worldwide Pornography Revenues were $97.06 billion. That's 2006 numbers. In 2006, China topped the list with more than $27 billion in pornography revenues. South Korea was next. http://internet-filter-review.toptenreviews.com
Can you imagine that human trafficking is a $34 billion industry? As reported in NOT MY LIFE, Cambodian children prostitutes say that American sex tourists are the most violent pedophiles of their international clients.
NOT MY LIFE was directed, written and produced by Robert Bilheimer and is narrated by Glenn Close. It took four years to make and covers five continents.
I've been to several of the countries profiled. I've seen children as young as 3 years old skillfully begging in the streets.
NOT MY LIFE begins with the fishing boys in Ghana on Lake Volta. Kidnapped or sold by their families, children as young as 5 or 6 are made to work 14 hours a day for one meal. Then the film goes to Senegal where children are forced to beg on the streets (which is common throughout Africa and India) and beaten if they do not bring back a few dollars. In India we see the children who spend their days going through a landfill in India (read Behind the Beautiful Forevers by Katherine Boo).
For the sex slavery market, traffickers prefer European children. A popular hunting ground is Roma children near Albania.
Journalist Paul Radu interviewed traffickers imprisoned in Budapest. They show absolutely no remorse and talk about making deals with families; they're brutality, and the light sentences they receive.
After reporting on child labor in Nepal, Bilheimer goes on to tackle the horrendous state of children forced into the highly profitable sex trade in Cambodia and India. Where is the humanity in these men who go on sex tours? Why do young girls have their vaginas sown up many times so they can be "deflowered" by tourists?
Finally, NOT MY LIFE addresses the problem of underage girls being kidnapped and sold into sex slavery in the U.S. One teenage girl tells her story.
NOT MY LIFE is a very disturbing film. The story of a girl forced to kill another girl who tried to escape being a child soldier is horrifying. The punishments meted out by pimps will make a lasting impression on anyone seeing this film.
Islamists destroy ancient sites in Timbuktu, Mali. Mali is one of the most exciting countries we have visited. How tragic that this magical, strange ancient city is closed to tourists.
Recently armed fighters of Mali's al-Qaida-linked Ansar Dine Islamist group destroyed the tomb of Saint Sidi Mahmoud, a revered Muslim scholar who is one of the 333 Sufi saints said to be buried in Timbuktu.
The attack came just four days after UNESCO agreed to a request by the West African state to place Timbuktu on its list of heritage sites in danger following the seizure of its northern two-thirds in April by separatist and Islamist rebels.
"They have already completely destroyed the mausoleum of Sidi Mahmoud (Ben Amar) and two others. They said they would continue all day and destroy all 16," local Malian journalist Yeya Tandina said by telephone of the 16 most prized resting grounds of local saints in the town.
As soon as I arrived in Timbuktu with the "I Shop" aura, all the merchants (we never saw women), their friends, and meandering kids, attached themselves to me. All day, every day, groups of merchants waited patiently outside our hotel for me to come out. I want to go back and hope the merchants settle with the Ansar Dine, or at least allow me safe passage.
Destroy Egypt's Great Pyramids? Could this even be possible? According to several reports in the Arabic media, prominent Muslim clerics have begun to call for the demolition of Egypt's Great Pyramids—or, in the words of Saudi Sheikh Ali bin Said al-Rabi‘i, those "symbols of paganism," which Egypt's Salafi party has long planned to cover with wax.
The Nour (The Light) Salafist party, which won 20 per cent of the vote in recent elections, are talking about putting an end to the 'idolatry' represented by the pyramids.
This means destruction - along the lines essayed by the Afghan Taliban who blew up the Banyam Buddhas - or 'concealment' by covering them with wax.
Tourists will be banned from even looking at the pyramids.
Most recently, Bahrain's "Sheikh of Sunni Sheikhs" and President of National Unity, Abd al-Latif al-Mahmoud, called on Egypt's new president, Muhammad Morsi, to "destroy the Pyramids and accomplish what the Sahabi Amr bin al-As could not."
This is a reference to the Muslim Prophet Muhammad's companion, Amr bin al-As and his Arabian tribesmen, who invaded and conquered Egypt circa 641. Under al-As many Egyptian antiquities were destroyed as relics of infidelity. According to early Muslim writers, the great Library of Alexandria itself—deemed a repository of pagan knowledge contradicting the Koran—was destroyed under bin al-As's reign and in compliance with Caliph Omar's command.
Tourism accounts for 11 per cent of Egypt's $218 billion GDP. Right now, hotels and resorts report falls in occupancy from 90 to 15 per cent. This is bad news for the 3 million Egyptians who depend on the 14 million tourists who visit Egypt each year.
